As a single mother of five grown boys, Ripple of Hope Award recipient Maureen Keller knows firsthand the importance of community. “Mine helped me raise my boys, and I am so grateful for that,” Maureen said. She wholeheartedly believes that including her residents in the world around them is not only vital to the success of those she serves, but to the communities in which they live. When she facilitated an open house for residents of the Blackhawk group home to meet and bond with neighbors, residents experienced an unmistakable sense of responsibility and pride. They helped clean, cook and entertain, and it wasn’t long before neighbors became friends. Residents began participating in the neighborhood association, together making important decisions to improve the community.
The 2006 Ripple of Hope Awards winners were honored on November 13th, 2006 at the John Joseph Moakely United States Courthouse in Boston, Massachusetts.
