As Director of Program Services for REM Heartland, Lori Larson oversees services in Minnesota’s Faribault and Martin Counties. Described by her peers as a “visionary,” Lori has been devoted to helping the people REM serves live productive lives since she started with the company 13 years ago. Where she sees the need, Lori responds. When parents of children REM serves expressed concern about social isolation during the summer months and a lack of structured programs in the community when kids weren’t in school, Lori helped get the Discovery Program up and running. The day camp for kids of all abilities provides fun summer activities for kids and much-needed respite for their parents. Lori’s leadership was critical in the establishment of Harbor Home, a supported living center where mothers addicted to methamphetamine can live with their children while receiving outpatient treatment for chemical dependency.
