At The MENTOR Network, we believe that our Direct Support Professionals—who help carry out The Network’s mission every day—should be valued, supported and recognized for a job well done. That’s why we’re honoring our direct support workforce and the tremendous difference they make each day in the lives of thousands of individuals we serve.
Each week, we’re recognizing one of our remarkable DSPs. Please take a moment to meet these talented individuals and remember to thank them for their commitment to the individuals we serve.
“When I first started as a DSP, I was just looking for a fun weekend job. It took me about two days before I realized this is what I am meant to do. I love being able to help the individuals we serve lead the most meaningful and fulfilling lives possible. We especially love doing things out in the community together. This year was challenging while we had to hunker down and stay home due to the pandemic, but we made sure to spend lots of time outside gardening, feeding the animals, and having plenty of water gun fights! When the weather was colder, we turned to crafts and redecorating the house.”
“I choose to work in a direct support role because it allows me to use my skills to help the people we serve reach their goals and live fulfilling lives. The role also allows me to continuously learn more about myself and others. Due to the pandemic, outings have been limited but we still find ways to do fun activities while staying safe at home. For example, an individual that I serve said they wanted to make a taco pizza because they enjoyed the meal as a child. We worked together to make the pizza and I could tell that he really enjoyed the activity, as well as the pizza, as he wants to make something new next week!”
“I work in a direct support role because I enjoy caring for people. I’m here to help my team members and the people we serve reach their goals and deal with everyday problems and struggles.”
