The MENTOR Network Honors Staff in Direct Care Roles During Direct Support Professional Recognition Week

At The MENTOR Network, we believe in recognizing employees who make a difference in the lives of the individuals we support. Beginning September 8, we celebrate National Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, a time to honor our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), Life Skills Trainers and others in direct support roles for their work in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, brain injury and other challenges. We also continue our annual tradition of celebrating our DSPs throughout the month of September.

“Direct Support Professionals are the often unsung heroes who make it possible for individuals with an array of challenges to thrive,” said Brett Cohen, Chief Operating Officer for The MENTOR Network. “In recognition of their compassion and their dedication to serving others, we thank all of our employees in direct support roles for the difference you make each day in the lives of those we serve.”

DSPs are the backbone of our work in communities across the country, providing support with daily living, skill building and community engagement to help individuals reach their full potential. This year, two of our DSPs were honored by the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR), for their outstanding dedication. Linda Renn, a Direct Support Professional from REM Iowa, was chosen as the Iowa Direct Support Professional of the Year. Aleia Dye, a Direct Support Professional from REM Mississippi, was chosen as the Mississippi Direct Support Professional of the Year.

“The MENTOR Network is fortunate to have Direct Support Professionals like Linda and Aleia,” added Cohen. “They exemplify our belief that with the right support, people of all abilities can live life to the fullest.”

Each day in September, The Network is recognizing one employee in a direct support role on our Facebook page and on our DSP of the Day page. This year’s campaign enables employees to share what they love about working in direct care and be recognized for the daily contributions they make in helping individuals live life to the fullest.
