A team made up of employees, family and friends of The MENTOR Network recently participated in the Best Buddies Challenge bike ride to Hyannis, MA. In this annual event, participants ride to raise funds for Best Buddies International, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
“The MENTOR Network is dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities participate fully in community life. We are pleased to give our support to an organization like Best Buddies, which shares our mission and does so much for the communities in which it works,” said Gerry Morrissey, Chief Quality Officer for The MENTOR Network, who participated in the ride.
Founded in 1989 by Anthony Shriver, Best Buddies International supports individuals with disabilities in forming friendships, developing leadership skills and securing employment and inclusive living. In addition to programs for the individuals it serves, Best Buddies offers events throughout the country such as the Best Buddies Challenge rides to enable communities to get involved.
The work of organizations like Best Buddies International is essential to eliminating barriers for individuals with disabilities, and The MENTOR Network is committed to being a partner in this effort. Since the 1960s, The Network and its partners have been at the forefront of the effort to move individuals out of restrictive care settings and into community-based programs where they can thrive. We now offer a continuum of services and supports for adults and children with disabilities, including host homes, group homes, day programs and vocational services.
