Each year the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR), the national association representing providers of community-based services to people with disabilities, chooses a Direct Support Professional from each state to be recognized for their outstanding contributions to the people they serve. The MENTOR Network is proud to announce that Tanya Croy, a Direct Support Professional from our partner organization REM Mississippi, was selected as the Mississippi DSP of the Year.
“Tanya wants the individuals she serves to be active, learning and loving life. She is passionate in her belief that they can do anything with a little encouragement. She encourages them to try everything and not just assume they can’t do it,” said Tish Dettor, Area Director for REM Mississippi.
Tanya is an advocate for families, ensuring that they are aware of all community resources and supports available to them. She is also passionate about helping individuals become involved in the community, both through recreational activities and volunteer projects. She has gotten residents involved in Special Olympics and helped them compete in skating and bowling events, and she recently worked with a group to assist George Cossar State Park in refurbishing their mini-golf course.
“Tanya Croy exemplifies our belief that everyone is capable of reaching new heights and thriving in the community,” said Dave Petersen, President of The MENTOR Network’s Community Support Services Operating Group. “On behalf of The Network, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Tanya and to all of the other nominees this year who strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the children and adults we are privileged to support.”
“Tanya possesses an unwavering dedication to the people she serves and to helping them build full, meaningful lives. Her compassion coupled with her belief that positive relationships are essential to an individual’s growth make her an exceptional care provider, advocate and friend to the people she serves. Congratulations, Tanya, on receiving this richly deserved award,” said Jessica Mathews, State Director of REM Mississippi.
Nominees for the Direct Support Professional of the Year Award are judged on their success in helping people with disabilities build social networks and engage in substantive community participation and for advocating for the people they serve. This year, thirteen Network employees were nominated by their colleagues for the Direct Support Professional of the Year award for their states. Meet the nominees.
