Tanya has been with REM Mississippi for two years and excels at creatively engaging the individuals she serves in the local community. She advocates for them to participate in community improvement projects, including a recent effort to refurbish a miniature golf course at George Cossar State Park. She also helped individuals enroll in the Special Olympics, where a group from REM Mississippi competed in skating and bowling.
“Tanya is adamant that our consumers can do anything with a little encouragement. She is constantly talking about the importance of being positive, helpful and honest,” said Tish Dettor, Area Director for REM Mississippi and Tanya’s nominator.
Beyond her role with REM Mississippi, Tanya is involved with several community causes, including Relay for Life, Autism “Light it up Blue,” and efforts to increase awareness for mental health, Down Syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease and breast cancer.
“Tanya Croy exemplifies our belief that everyone is capable of reaching new heights and thriving in the community,” said Dave Petersen, President of The MENTOR Network’s Redwood Operating Group. “On behalf of The Network, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Tanya and to all of the other nominees this year who strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the children and adults we are privileged to support.”
