ANCOR’s 2016 Iowa Direct Support Professional of the Year is The MENTOR Network’s own Peter Mullaney, a Program Coordinator with REM Iowa Community Services.
Peter has been with REM Iowa for three years, and in that time he has personified the strong values and ethics of an outstanding DSP. He often goes far beyond the call of duty by doing things such as joining REM’s Autism Champions group and regularly attending community advocacy meetings, all to the benefit of the people he serves. He is a seasoned advocate for the rights of his clients, and he never backs down if he feels that the rights of the individuals he supports may have been violated.
“Peter is always the first to volunteer for any direct care shifts, and he is the first person his team calls if anything problematic arises. I can’t imagine anyone more deserving of recognition of his dedication than Peter,” said REM Iowa Executive Director, Lisa Pakkebier.
