“Aleia goes out of her way to teach them new things and is a strong advocate for their needs. To see the compassion and the ‘I won’t give up’ attitude she exhibits toward others is amazing,” said Jessica Mathews, State Director of REM Mississippi.

Aleia has gone above and beyond to get to know an individual at the Day Program. This individual doesn’t open up easily, but Aleia was determined to gain his trust. She paid close attention to his behaviors, moods and daily activities in order to get to know his needs. As a result, she was able to introduce new experiences to this gentleman. She is constantly teaching him new things, and this has greatly opened up this world. Now he feels joy and happiness. He has also become more social, laughs more often and is more adventurous. This is all because of the time he spends with Aleia.
